Listen

Written January 27, 2009

The hundreds of drops
With no intention of stopping
I didn’t listen

I walked up the stairs
With warnings to heed everywhere
I didn’t listen

If only I could have listened
I’d still have you, I’d have your trust
I’d see your smile
I’d get to hug you just a little while longer

The memories were fading
I couldn’t believe you were actually waiting
I should have listened

One of my greatest fears
Nearly brought on the tears
I should have listened

I swear to you that I’ll listen
Do I still have you? Do I have your trust?
Can I see your smile?
Can I hug you just a little while longer?

I didn’t know and I don’t remember
But that’s no excuse to be a sinner
It all washed away on a forgotten night
Why did I betray everything that was right?

Do I still have you? Do I have your trust?
Can I see your smile?
Can I hug you just a little while longer?

I can’t afford to lose you
Not after all we’ve been through
I can’t afford to let you go
Not after all we’ve come to know
I can’t afford to walk away
Not after all we’ve had to say

Here, There, Everywhere

Written October 07, 2008

We went to a coffee house and I got a soup and a muffin and a coffee
Took a sip here, sip there, I was sipping everywhere
A twelfth of our day was spent sitting down, another twelfth sweating; we were all over town
Drove here, drove there, we were driven everywhere

Hellos and goodbyes, shaking hands and high fives
Went to the alley, five Hanks and a Sally
A provocative name and a “scandalous” game
She had a good guess, knew my smile meant yes
She had a good guess, knew that my smile meant yes

Easy to make a dollar when you’re playing a guy who just got horse collared
Pins here, pins there, pins were flying everywhere
A twelfth of our day was spent throwing hard, another twelfth chatting in the back of my yard
Drinks here, food there, it was lying everywhere

Little jokes, little laughs, friendships that’ll last
There was a shoulder shrug then a downhill hug
As quickly as they had gone, they were right at home
End of a great day; rain drops were falling on my head
End of a great day; rain drops were falling on my head
