Simple Things

Written August 14, 2008

I don’t need a metaphor
Or even a simile
To describe all the simple things
That you do for me

I’m not saying that you’re simple
In fact, you’re very complex
It’s just that seeing your dimples
Means more than objects

I don’t need a reason
Or even a rhyme
To describe the emotions
I feel at night

I’m not saying I don’t love it
‘Cause you know that I do
It’s just that feeling your lovin’
Is always overdue

I don’t need a rhythm
Or a metronome
To keep the beat in my heart
Whenever you’re home

I’m not saying you’re the drummer
Even though that you are
It’s just that you’re my lover
No matter near or far

Made This Way

Written July 27, 2008

I always wondered why I was made this way
But then I realized it all today

I’ve got long arms, so I can squeeze you tight
Enormous hands, to hold you at night
A foot in height, so it’s cuter when we kiss
It makes me smile to know you’re in love with this

Tonight, we can just call it a night
And sit hear and look at the stars
‘Cause the sky is ours
The night is ours

I always wondered why you were made this way
But then I realized it all today

You’ve got that shape, so we fit like a puzzle
The bridge of your nose, is where my lips can nuzzle
A beautiful mind, so we can always reminisce
It makes me smile to know I’m in love with this

Tonight, we can just call it a night
And sit hear and look at the stars
‘Cause the sky is ours
The night is ours

Just Around the Corner

Written July 25, 2008

You and me are people living in an ordinary world
Can be so cruel to you, so you so get off your feet
And fly with me down to the corner of Hope and Serenity
Is where the angels sleep at night with dreams of

Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day

I’ll hold you as long as I can until my heart grows tired
Of loving too isn’t easy as the movies make it out to be
So great, like men who ruled the world and drowned everyone
In tears of hate wasn’t enough ’cause they knew that

Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day
Happiness’ll be just around the corner someday, one day

But if it’s not, you’ll turn around and I’ll be there for you
Are hot to the touch, so if I’m ever cold I’ll hug
On you until the rise of the sun comes up
As it always does ’cause it knows that

Happiness’ll be just around the corner Sunday, Monday
Happiness’ll be just around the corner Tuesday, Wednesday
Happiness’ll be just around the corner Thursday, Friday
Happiness’ll be just around the corner Saturday, today

Redheaded Woman

Written July 02, 2008

Teach me how to fly a kite, redheaded woman
The darkness of the night, you proudly stood in

How did you get here?
Where are you from?
Am I dreaming of you
Or just playing dumb?

Jump into my yard, and take my hand to go
Go ahead and lead my heart to places I do not know
Make my mind think of things I’ve never thought before

Take your time
Don’t look at me like I can read your mind

Cause I know that I just don’t know you well enough to know what you’re knowing
How can I show emotion I didn’t know I was supposed to be showing

Why are you here?
Where are you from?
You’re not very clear
Now go back home

Get out of my yard, redheaded woman
Go back to the place you previously stood in

Where ever you go
Whether among the stars
Or the trees and leaves
Please make it far

‘Cause I hardly knew you
But you changed my life
Now somebody pinch me
‘Cause I’m dreaming up lies

Momma

Written June 29, 2008

When I am older and I have aged many years
I will ask you a question while I fight back the tears

I will ask you, momma, what do the clouds feel like on your fingertips?
And, momma, please tell me you’re in a better place than this
I hope you will say, the wind that I feel makes me feel young again
To answer your question, I’m making the world a better place to live

Oh momma, momma, momma, sing me another lulla-goodbye song
Oh momma, momma, momma, please tell me when you’re coming home
Oh momma, momma, momma, sing me another lulla-goodbye song
Oh momma, momma, momma, you know I can’t stand to be alone

I can hardly stand at all
You’re no longer there to catch when I fall
So many unanswered questions
I just wish you could answer ’em all

But I can’t hear your replies
I just think of the truth I saw in your eyes
Please don’t steer me wrong
I can’t deal with any more lies

Oh momma, momma, momma, sing me another lulla-goodbye song
Oh momma, momma, momma, please tell me when you’re coming home
Oh momma, momma, momma, sing me another lulla-goodbye song
Oh momma, momma, momma, you know I can’t stand to be alone

I have aged many years
And I’m fighting back the tears

Oh momma, momma, momma, I’ve lost count of the days
Oh momma, momma, momma, it’s so nice to see your face

Eternity’s Spell

Written June 25, 2008

We all grow old, I saw it in my grandpa’s face just five years ago
We all grow old, and don’t realize ’til the end how little we know

I’ve been thinking, what happens when you’re no longer hearing thunder
I’ve been thinking, what happens when it’s over and we’re six feet under

Down in the dirt ain’t such a bad place to be
I know Mother Earth is gonna take care of me
But if I’m looking down on you, try not to cry
All I ask of you is that you stand by his side

Whether it’s heaven or hell, I do not know
But it’s eternity’s spell that we’ll end up below
Or maybe rise to the top to see everyone
Either way it never stops ’cause I’ll always feel the sun

I just noticed, there’s got to be more to life than preaching all of my love
I just noticed, there’s got to be more to life than what I’ve been dreaming of

When I wake up, will I be on the clouds that we’ve never been able to see?
When I wake up, will I be under ground with all of my friends and my family?

Down in the dirt ain’t such a bad place to be
I know Mother Earth is gonna take care of me
But if I’m looking down on you, try not to cry
All I ask of you is that you stand by his side

Whether it’s heaven or hell, I do not know
But it’s eternity’s spell that we’ll end up below
Or maybe rise to the top to see everyone
Either way it never stops ’cause I’ll always feel the sun

As for now, love, I’m gonna keep on breathing until I see it bright
As for now, love, all I can do is let the day turn into the night

Have sweet dreams, dear, they could be your last so make ’em better than ever
Have sweet dreams, dear, if you’re scared, don’t worry, we’re in this together
