And The Ash

Written December 03, 2008

The red light’s flashing and the noise is blaring but there ain’t nobody home
At least not in his head, he’s just lying in bed
Beads of sweat dripping off his own
He took half the bottle to knock him out so that he couldn’t feel the heat
Curled up in a ball, away from it all
For when it crumbled to his feet

He could cry
He could cry to himself about the failure he’d become
He could die
He could die inside, left to himself, alone

Take what you can, he screamed
Take what you must, he cried
I don’t mean to be this way
But I can’t live with myself another God damned night

Take all possessions, get out and go
As far away as you can
‘Cause after tonight there’ll be nothing left
Except for me and the ash
Except for me and the ash

Beams were hitting the floor with thunderclaps but he didn’t seem to mind
‘Cause there ain’t no man in this fatal plan
That could make it to him in time
Upon the ceiling the fog is rising, without a call to the savior fleet
He just planned to fall, away from it all
For when it crumbled to his feet

He could cry
He could cry to himself about the failure he’d become
He could die
He could die inside, left to himself, alone

Get out children, he screamed
Get out love, he cried
I don’t mean to be this way
But I can’t live with myself another God damned night

So run out the door, get out and go
As far away as you can
‘Cause after tonight there’ll be nothing left
Except for me and the ash
Except for me and the ash

His eyes began to close
His heart began to fail
He could feel the heat, hear the sound
As it encompassed him all around

For when it crumbled to his feet
He could cry
He could say goodbye

The Beast

Written November 27, 2008

The most feared things are the things we cannot see
The beast in the night hiding in the shadows on the street
Just waiting to scare you
Just waiting to scare you
Just waiting to hear your scream

Across the distant oceans
Are the monsters we fear most and
We can’t even check under the bed
For things we left unsaid

She told you to trust her
You thought she was safe
But you were betrayed
‘Cause you had been played

Just a fool
Just a hapless fool
It went and happened to you
How could this happen to you

Keep running, son, ‘cause you don’t know what to do when it comes, son
So run, son, ‘cause the moon is out and there ain’t no sun, tonight

But you can’t run from it
‘Cause it only comes from it
The end of your days
The end of your ways
Are all gone from it

Do away with the people that brought it
Those who ignore say they never got it
And every little lover wished they could have fought it

Truth be told to help save your brothers
Keep the tears from the eyes of their mothers
‘Cause it’s you against the others

The most feared things are the things we cannot see
The beast in the night hiding in the shadows on the street
Just waiting to grab you
Just waiting to grab you
Just waiting to hear your scream

Across the distant oceans
Are the monsters we fear most and
We can’t even check under the bed
For things we left unsaid

Here, There, Everywhere

Written October 07, 2008

We went to a coffee house and I got a soup and a muffin and a coffee
Took a sip here, sip there, I was sipping everywhere
A twelfth of our day was spent sitting down, another twelfth sweating; we were all over town
Drove here, drove there, we were driven everywhere

Hellos and goodbyes, shaking hands and high fives
Went to the alley, five Hanks and a Sally
A provocative name and a “scandalous” game
She had a good guess, knew my smile meant yes
She had a good guess, knew that my smile meant yes

Easy to make a dollar when you’re playing a guy who just got horse collared
Pins here, pins there, pins were flying everywhere
A twelfth of our day was spent throwing hard, another twelfth chatting in the back of my yard
Drinks here, food there, it was lying everywhere

Little jokes, little laughs, friendships that’ll last
There was a shoulder shrug then a downhill hug
As quickly as they had gone, they were right at home
End of a great day; rain drops were falling on my head
End of a great day; rain drops were falling on my head

When She Needs A Shoulder

Written August 31, 2008

I try to be her knight in shinning armor
Be her king, build my castle around her
Guard her with my life forever
And be there when she needs a shoulder

We lied there cuddling, oh, so softly
While she sang little sweet-nothings to me

She laced her tiny fingers through my own
My house ain’t sweet until she comes home

I try to be her knight in shinning armor
‘Cause her love is the only thing I’m fighting for

I try to be her knight in shinning armor
Be her king, build my castle around her
Guard her with my life forever
Be there when she needs a shoulder

Just to sleep
To sleep
Just to sleep
I’ll be there when she sleeps

When it comes to love, hers is all I want
When it came time, Cupid didn’t have to hunt

She likes my jokes and I love to hear her laugh
She plays with bubbles when we take a bath

I try to be her knight in shinning armor
‘Cause her love is the only thing I’m fighting for

I try to be her knight in shinning armor
Be her king, build my castle around her
Guard her with my life forever
Be there when she needs a shoulder

Just to laugh
To laugh
Just to laugh
I’ll be there when she laughs

The Original Sin

Written August 31, 2008

Hi, sweetheart
Hello, soul mate
Did I really hear you right?
Well how did it taste?

This is forbidden
But also tempting
The serpent said we would live
So I’ll just take a bite

What in the hell?
This tastes like heaven
But we’ve unleashed the seven sins
Unto the world

It’s the original sin that made us this way
And now we’re forbidden and given a life of pain

He took from me and created you
You’ve only been a burden, what the hell did you do?

Two thousand years ago you were supposed to be a blessing
But two thousand years from now they’ll only be asking questions

Why can’t we just lay down together
Without a single bother
There’s always gotta be a father in my damn way

Why won’t you just let me live
I ain’t ’bout to forgive
‘Cause you used to be just like me back in the day

I said you used to be
Just like me
Back in the day

It’s because of the original sin
That we end up this way

Fishes

Written August 14, 2008

I’m just a dove
I’m just a dove who’s alone now
My love has been shot down
Loveless, lacking know-how

I’ve washed the color out of my eyes
From all the times I’ve thought of you
Now I keep them closed tight at night
I can’t let you see they’ve lost their hue

I can see my reflection in my black sunglasses
All I see are my own eyes looking back at me
That’s the closest I’ve come to seeing my own soul
And now I know there’s more to see

I’m just swimming
I’m just swimming with fishes now
Dreaming up wishes now
Giving out kisses now

I’m just swimming
I’m just swimming with fishes now
Dreaming up wishes now
And I’m giving out kisses now

I’m gonna give myself time to think
Do I jump and will I fall?
Do I try to start over again?
I can’t let that happen to me at all

I can see my reflection in my mirror tonight
All I see is my devil, I don’t think it’d dare
The fire in it’s eyes has begun to ignite
All I gotta do is give it air

I’m just swimming
I’m just swimming with fishes now
Dreaming up wishes now
Giving out kisses now

I’m just swimming
I’m just swimming with fishes now
Dreaming up wishes now
And I’m giving out kisses now
