SEACREST, FLORIDA

A trade wind.
A sea breeze.
A sweeping cadence
within the Gulf spray
entrusted me, now,
with the shores of Cuba,
setting off the fuse of dawn.
The purr of broken tides.
The drunken resilience
I have been longing to feel
—praying to feel, for once—
since some morning in April.
