WHAT IF

What if everything you ever loved
Everything you ever loved
Everything you ever loved was wrong
Everything you ever loved was gone

We can play the What If game all day
Come up with scenarios that take our breath away
Or we could write a bit of fiction to envision ourselves in the future
What if we forgot to play

What if this song wasn’t about you
What if I wrote this for another girl
And just happened to play it for you also
Would you still call me your world

What if I never went to school
What if I made up everything I knew
And just happened to say what I was thinking
Would you hate me for pleasing you

We can play the What If game all day
Come up with scenarios that take our breath away
Or we could write a bit of fiction to envision ourselves in the future
What if we forgot to play

What if everyone could hear what we were thinking
What if your eyes ceased to continue blinking
Well I guess we’d be honest and we’d blind
And living on an Earth that’s free of war and crime

But something has to keep us spinning
Something has to keep us hit or missing
‘Cause if we were all just perfect
Would we think life was worth it
Or would we let it slip through our fingers, down to the ground
But don’t we already now

What if we didn’t take it for granted
What if we stopped playing this game
And instead put our hands in the clouds to pull a little of our own heaven down
What if we gave Earth a new name
