IF I KNEW

If I knew how to play the piano
I would only bang the keys for you
I wouldn’t go about it lightly
It takes more energy than that for this lust to show through

I know a guy that plays the guitar
I can have him strum it for you
I wouldn’t even have to do nothing
I’d just sit down by you, make sure you’re enjoying the croon

‘Cause I may not look great on paper
But I’ve got words that’ll make you think wise
And when the morning lights come
You’ll know the arm wrapped around you is mine

If I knew how to write you a love song
I would name it after you
It wouldn’t be all that simplistic
It’d be a metaphor for how you look in the light of the moon

I know a guy that paints like Picasso
I can have him paint a portrait of you
It’d probably be something abstract
And if you don’t like it I won’t show you the other two

‘Cause I may not look great on paper
But I’ve got words that’ll make you think wise
And when the morning lights come
You’ll know the arm wrapped around you is mine

Now I may not be able to do what they do
But give me some time and I’ll learn it for you
You’ve got to love me for what I can’t do
And you’ve got to appreciate what I can do, too

If I knew how to play the piano
I would only bang the keys for you
I know a guy that plays the guitar
I can have him strum it for you

If I knew how to write you a love song
I would name it after you
I know a guy that paints like Picasso
I can have him paint a portrait of you
