MOUNTAINS AND VALLEYS

A few thousand valleys in my skin
Each growing deeper with all my time
No reason or no rhyme
Not sure which ones are mine
But I may as well just let ‘em grow

So many mountains here within
Each growing higher with all my time
It’s all too damn sublime
Not sure which ones are mine
But I may as well just let ‘em grow

Mountains and valleys, taller and deeper
Taller and deeper and higher and wider
And wider and wider, and wider and wider

I wish the hands of God would feed me something I could taste
‘Cause I’ve been dining with a sour tongue in the same damn place
I wish the hands of God would give me something I could hold
‘Cause I’ve been praying with empty hands ever since I was born

Give me something I can taste
Give me something I can hold
Give me something for my grave
Give me something you have told

You had been enamored
I had to drop the hammer on you
But it hit me too
Knocked my legs out from under
With the crash of the thunder
It fell out of the sky and hit both you and I

Then the laws of love said no, no, no, no
But they let me dig a shallow grave
Ain’t no point in saving grace
Just take me to this sacred place

Then the laws of love said no, no, no, no
But they let me dig a shallow grave
Ain’t no point in saving grace
Just take me to

A few thousand valleys in my skin
Each growing deeper with all my time
No reason or no rhyme
Not sure which ones are mine
But I may as well just let ‘em grow
